Storage battery is a kind of battery that can store chemical energy and convert it into electric energy, which is widely used in various fields such as household appliances, electric power system, transportation and so on. At present, a variety of types of batteries are widely used, of which the four most commonly used varieties are lead-acid batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries and lithium-ion batteries.

1, lead-acid batteries

Lead-acid batteries are the most widely used batteries, commonly used in automobiles, UPS and other applications. Lead-acid battery (VRLA), is a kind of electrode mainly made of lead and its oxides, the electrolyte is sulfuric acid solution of the battery. In the discharged state of the lead-acid battery, the main component of the positive electrode is lead dioxide, and the main component of the negative electrode is lead; in the charged state, the main components of both the positive and negative electrodes are lead sulfate.

In the application, often with 6 single cell lead-acid batteries in series to form a nominal 12V lead-acid battery, and 24V, 36V, 48V, etc.. Whether in transportation, communications, electricity, military or in navigation, aviation, various economic fields, lead-acid batteries have played an indispensable and important role.

2, nickel-cadmium batteries

Nickel-cadmium battery (Nickel-cadmium battery) positive active material is mainly made of nickel, negative active material is mainly made of cadmium, an alkaline battery. Positive pole is nickel hydroxide, negative pole is cadmium, electrolyte is potassium hydroxide solution. Its advantages are lightweight, shock resistance, long life, commonly used in small electronic equipment.

Nickel-cadmium battery is a higher power density than lead-acid batteries, longer cycle life of the battery. Nickel-cadmium batteries are usually used in military, industrial and aerospace industries.

3, nickel-metal hydride batteries

Nickel-metal hydride batteries are a good performance battery. Nickel-metal hydride batteries are divided into high-pressure nickel-metal hydride batteries and low-voltage nickel-metal hydride batteries. Nickel-metal hydride battery positive active material for Ni (OH) 2 (called NiO electrode), negative active material for metal hydride, also known as hydrogen storage alloy (electrode called hydrogen storage electrode), electrolyte for 6 mol / L potassium hydroxide solution.

Nickel-metal hydride battery is an environmentally friendly storage battery, mainly used in consumer electronics and other fields. Its power density is higher than that of lead-acid batteries, and its service life is generally longer and lighter.

4, lithium-ion batteries

Lithium-ion batteries are currently one of the most widely used batteries on the market, widely used in mobile devices, power tools, electronic vehicles and other fields.

In the early 1990s, Sony successfully applied graphite as an anode, lithium-ion batteries can be charged and discharged many times after the official commercialization. Lithium ions are embedded in carbon (petroleum coke and graphite) to form the anode (conventional lithium batteries use lithium or lithium alloys as the anode). LixCoO2 is commonly used for the anode material, but LixNiO2 and LixMnO4 are also used, and LiPF6 + Ethylene Carbonate (EC) + Dimethyl Carbonate (DMC) is used for the electrolyte.

Depending on the electrolyte material used in lithium-ion batteries, lithium-ion batteries are categorized as Liquified Lithium-Ion Battery (LIB) and Polymer Lithium-Ion Battery (PLB).

The choice of battery depends on the specific application and usage requirements. Cost, capacity, power density, service life, weight, safety and other factors should be fully considered when purchasing.
